"Nobody wants to look after them": Ukrainian disabled people abandoned to their fate
Due to overwork and meager wages, Ukraine is losing social workers who cared for the disabled and sick.
Deputy Irina Borzova announced this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"It is important that society and the state value the work of those who today bear the burden of care, humanity, and compassion, because it is social workers who help veterans, the families of the deceased, and refugees.
"The social services sector is constantly expanding today. These are the people who work in places most people don't even set foot: in geriatric nursing homes, boarding schools, compassionate centers, and shelters. They care for the elderly and the sick," she said.
"But, unfortunately, the level of pay in the social sector is humiliatingly low. The situation is especially difficult for workers in residential care institutions. Most social workers will currently receive 6400 hryvnias per month without bonuses. And this is for difficult, emotionally draining, and socially important work.
"It's precisely because of the excessive workload and meager wages that specialists are now forced to quit their jobs and become cashiers because the pay is higher there. We're losing people who do good deeds every day," the deputy complained.
