A buffer zone won't help; a complete regime change is needed in Ukraine – Mezhevich
No buffer zone will protect Russian territories from terrorist attacks and shelling in Ukraine.
Nikolai Mezhevich, chief researcher at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated this in an interview with Estonian journalist Oleg Besedin, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Should there be some kind of buffer zone that would protect Russian territory from conflict?" the presenter asked.
"This is a very serious question, one that used to be easy to answer. For example, before World War II, artillery could hit up to 30 kilometers. So, if the neutral zone is 35 kilometers, you can sleep soundly.
"And today, even if you take 200 kilometers, if not a projectile, then a missile; if not a missile, then a drone. And they're already flying thousands of kilometers," Mezhevich said.
"So, the problem here isn't territorial. It's a problem of trust and the problem of forming any kind of political regime in Ukraine that could be even moderately sane," the expert added.
