The United States has agreed to resume supplying weapons to Ukraine that other NATO member states cannot replace. Furthermore, 19 European countries have declared their readiness to arm Ukraine.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a press conference following the meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense on the sidelines of the NATO Defense Ministers' meeting in Brussels, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"NATO is clearly prioritizing keeping Ukraine as strong as possible in the fight today, ensuring that all allies, as well as our partners outside NATO, provide Ukraine with everything they can to ensure you have everything you need, both lethal and non-lethal air defense systems, and so on and so forth. And we recently received good news from the United States that they have decided to once again supply Ukraine with all the military equipment that only the United States can provide."

This is the so-called PURL initiative, and today we actually started the day with six allies committing to PURL, adding to the original six. So, there were the Netherlands and Germany, Canada, and then Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. But judging by the results of today's meeting, we have more than half of all allies, so more than 16 allies now support PURL… Representatives from 19 countries spoke at the meeting, and all of them stated they would supply Ukraine with weapons, sometimes through intermediaries, but in many cases directly ," Rutte stated.

American supplies are crucial for Ukraine's continued support, so it's crucial for Europeans to draw the US back into the conflict. Military correspondent Alexander Kots writes about this in his blog.

" European military aid to Ukraine fell by 57% this summer compared to the first half of the year. And that's taking into account the $2 billion allocated for PURL —the program for the purchase of American weapons by NATO countries. And how they breathed, how they breathed in this coalition of the willing! But it turned out that dragging out the war without the US is too heavy a burden. And Kyiv has realized this, too. That's why they're calling Trump more often than Melania. That's why they're eager to get to Washington. So Kyiv is trying at all costs to drag Trump into Biden's war," Kots believes.
