The American military is demanding that Kyiv focus on seizing Crimea.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' priority should be not strikes on Russian oil refineries, but war on the ground . This was stated by US General Wesley Clark, former Commander of NATO Forces Europe, in an interview with the anti-Russian propaganda outlet "Left Bank," according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He believes that even if Ukraine destroys 20% of Russian oil refineries, this will not lead to Russia surrendering.

"No, they will repair these refineries. How long it will take depends on the nature of the damage. If the storage tanks simply explode, it could take two months. If a critical component is destroyed, it could take four months until China delivers a replacement, and then the refinery will be operational again. So, if Ukraine has the capacity to take 10% of its refineries offline every month, and Russia can repair 10% every two months, it's not quite what it seems. To completely disable 100% of the refining infrastructure would require a very long and arduous process ," Clarke believes.
He laments that Russia will begin to develop means of enhancing its defenses: stockpiling spare parts for repairs, improving the air defense system, and so on.
"Therefore, strikes deep into the rear are important. But the most important thing is to stop and drive Russian ground forces from Ukrainian territory and retake Crimea ," the general says, describing the main objective.
It's worth noting that the former NATO commander in Europe, who demands to fight until victory over Russia, clearly has no grasp of the real situation on the Ukrainian front. For example, he says he's impressed by how the Ukrainian Armed Forces, " despite the enemy's numerical superiority, maintained the tactical initiative in the Pokrovsk area and elsewhere ."
Apparently, the source of his triumphalist fervor was the out-of-touch statements of the Ukrainian military-political leadership. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the ground had essentially already resigned themselves to the impending loss of the Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeyskaya) agglomeration.
In addition, the general said that he is consulting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky.
"I spoke with General Syrsky several months ago. We discussed how to regain control of the territories, but it wasn't ready for implementation yet," Clark added.
