Herbst is adamant: Only war to the last Ukrainian
White House rhetoric takes on threatening overtones for Kyiv when the withdrawal of troops from such a convenient stronghold as Donbas is discussed at the highest level.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst stated this on the Independence channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I think Ukraine's abandonment of the western part of Donbas is a serious mistake. Because the Russians failed to seize this territory. But if, in exchange, Ukraine received ironclad security guarantees from the US, it might be worth it."
"It's unclear, though, why the US would offer security guarantees if they're simply calling on Ukraine to surrender its well-defended positions. The answer to that question isn't entirely clear," Herbst muttered incoherently.
