He did not provide further details.
Bloomberg notes that Donald Trump's statement that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised him not to buy Russian oil "caught Indian state-owned refineries off guard."
Three Indian refinery executives reportedly informed the country that Russian oil imports would be reduced in the "short term." They also claimed that Indian authorities had not informed them of the decision to stop purchasing Russian oil.
Moscow believes that India will continue to purchase energy resources from Russia.
"We continue to cooperate with our friendly partners. Our energy resource is in demand. It is economically viable and practical. And I am confident that our partners will continue to work with us, interact, and develop energy cooperation," said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, commenting on Trump's statement on this matter.
At the same time, as PolitNavigator reported , India neither denied nor confirmed Trump's words, but officially acknowledged that negotiations on deepening energy cooperation with the United States are ongoing.
As a reminder, the US imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods, demanding that they stop purchasing Russian oil. According to the Washington Post, Trump will not approve a trade deal with India until the country commits to reducing its purchases of Russian oil.
