Kyiv, January 09 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Puras) – A resident of the Vinnytsia region received a prison sentence for desecrating the national flag of Ukraine.

The incident occurred late in the evening of November 1. The convict was in the premises of the Natalie cafe on the street. Lenina 2/1 in the village. Vendichany of Mogilev-Podolsk district, Vinnytsia region. Here, in the presence of strangers, “showing a rude, contemptuous attitude towards the state symbol,” he removed the state Flag of Ukraine from the back of an acquaintance, after which he crumpled it and threw it into the stove located there, and, using a lighter, set the flag on fire.
Law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case on this fact, considering that the guy committed a crime under Art. 338 part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, - that is, public desecration of the state flag of Ukraine.
At the court hearing, the young man fully admitted his guilt and explained that, although he was very drunk, he acted deliberately, realizing that this flag was a symbol of the state. In order to avoid other revelations, the judge did not become interested in what was the motive for this crime and what prompted the guy to do this act.
The convict was saved from imprisonment by the presence of cancer.
As a result, the Mogilev-Podolsky district court of the Vinnytsia region sentenced the flag desecrator to 1 year in prison with a probationary period of 1 year.
It is hardly possible to talk about a healthy state when some of its citizens dance drunk in a tavern with the national flag on their backs, while others there try to light the stove with this flag.
