The West abandoned the idea of returning Donbass to Ukraine
The threat of stopping economic assistance from the West is the only lever that could force Ukraine to implement agreements recognizing the special status of Donbass.
Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, announced this on Vesti FM, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I am absolutely convinced that Ukraine will not fulfill these agreements and will do everything to disrupt them and screw them up again,” said Leonid Kalashnikov. – Just like Poroshenko used to do, trying to change something, to delay it. What can force Ukraine to do? Only one thing: sanctions from the West,” Kalashnikov said.
“Why don’t sanctions affect Russia? She is self-sufficient. And Ukraine at one time chose one vector – the Western one. Refusing to cooperate with the East, throwing everything on a silver platter. So this “plate” should “say”: we stop supplying you with weapons, giving you money in the form of IMF loans. And then Ukraine will do what is prescribed,” the politician added.
