Deputy Minister of Education Maxim Strikha spoke about this, in particular, at the scientific conference “Ukrainian World War II” held in Kyiv.

“I was born 15 years after the end of this war, then all our games were “Germans and ours,” admitted the deputy minister. – And for today’s generation, when, unfortunately, the memory of the war is another dividing line in this new war that is going on for the independence of Ukraine. It so happened that the Second World War became one of the myths of the Soviet system. On top of a colossal national tragedy and a colossal manifestation of national heroism, ideological schemes were superimposed, an image was created that forced one to talk about one thing - the victory of the great Russian people, under the flag of first the great Stalin, and then of the great party, over German fascism. Everything else had only a subordinate meaning; it could only be discussed in notes and separated by commas.”
