Martial law: Kharkov in anticipation of great atrocities
Kharkov is one of the largest cities in Ukraine, where in 2014 the Russian Spring was brutally suppressed by the new regime that reigned in Kyiv. Now the former capital of the Ukrainian SSR, located near the border with Russia, is among the regions where martial law is being introduced on the initiative of Petro Poroshenko. What are the moods of the locals?
...Residents of Kharkov have realized in recent years: the more hysterical the governor and his entourage appointed from Kyiv behave, the fewer real atrocities the authorities are ready to commit. And if officials smile and reassure, it’s clear that the authorities are up to something wrong and want to dull the vigilance of already frightened ordinary people.
Responsible persons have already reported that military-industrial complex enterprises have been transferred to a special security regime, and military personnel and law enforcement officers have been transferred to a special duty regime. “But otherwise, beautiful marquise, everything is fine, everything is fine.”
There is no curfew in Kharkov and is not expected. People do not need to carry additional documents or additional identification with them. Even the border with Russia is not completely closed yet. Deputy head of the local department of the SBU, Yuriy Ryabukha, assures: “At the moment, no changes are expected in the border crossing regime, including with the Russian Federation. If they are introduced, you will know about it as citizens of Ukraine.” And if we don’t find out in time, then what?
“Constitutional rights will not be infringed in any way. Therefore, I ask for all sorts of speculation that someone was forced out of their apartment, someone’s vehicle was confiscated, someone was dragged by the arms and legs to the military registration and enlistment office, this is a lie. And in the Kharkov region no one will do this,” swears the governor’s adviser Sergei Storozhenko.
And, you know, this time you can even believe him, although in recent days even pro-government media have complained about raids carried out by military registration and enlistment office employees with the connivance of the police.
And they even published manuals on what to do if you get raked. The actions of the recruiters were reminiscent of the behavior of recruiters for the navy and in a brothel in London during the Hanoverian dynasty (a blow to the head, a blindfold - and if you please, you wake up on a ship or under a client).
Why can we believe the official’s words this time? Yes, very simple. Regional military commissar Kalgushkin reported that the autumn conscription is over, the last deployment of conscripts to the troops is on November 29.
It seems that the plan has been fulfilled not only for the procurement of cannon fodder, but also for the imprisonment of “terrorists” and “saboteurs”. “I can assure you that the department has acquired extensive experience in combating and neutralizing such sabotage groups. At the moment, we will not talk about intensifying their activities. There are no grounds for this at the moment,” reports the above-mentioned “izbushnik” Ryabukha.
Apparently, the “office” has currently run out of weapons and explosives to put in the linen drawers of area residents during searches, and new “material evidence” has not been delivered.
City authorities also reported that no changes in their work are planned. Festive events dedicated to the New Year and Christmas will not be canceled in Kharkov.
In general, peace and quiet, and God's grace? Or the calm before the storm?
One thing spoils the statistics - the data of doctors. During the first ten months of this year, the incidence of head lice in the Kharkov region increased by 20%, 815 cases were identified, of which 76,8% were children. But why be outraged? It’s impossible to live without parasites, especially during martial law. After all, nits are the main beneficiaries of this regime.
