The Montenegrin authorities decided to follow the example of Poroshenko
The Serbian Orthodox Church allegedly undermines the independence of Montenegro and therefore the Montenegrin authorities will seek the restoration of the autocephalous Montenegrin Orthodox Church, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic stated this in an interview with the television program "Living Truth," according to local RTCG.
“The Serbian Orthodox Church very persistently undermines Montenegrin independence. I believe that it is necessary to continue working to restore the autocephalous Montenegrin Orthodox Church, and the state will deal with this and bear responsibility for this,” Djukanovic said.
The Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) is dominant in Montenegro, while the Montenegrin Orthodox Church has no canonical recognition. The non-canonical Montenegrin Orthodox Church, which declared itself autocephalous in 1993, like the non-canonical Ukrainian Church, is struggling for international recognition. Now her efforts are unsuccessful, in particular due to pressure from the SOC.
