This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik, assessing the EU’s demand to cancel the moratorium on the export of round timber previously adopted by the Verkhovna Rada.
“To a significant extent, the pressure and blackmail that we are seeing today from the EU was initiated by Ukrainian officials, businessmen and corrupt officials. Europe is simply interested in its jobs and economic development. Often the economic development of our neighbors was achieved through the plunder of Ukraine. The topic of exported amber was also not closed, as far as I remember.
Previously, the same thing happened with heavy engineering, complex branches of economics and science. Our neighbors and partners were looting everywhere there. If at first the USA and Western Europe were looting, then recently even Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and our former colleagues in the USSR have been looting. It’s just that everyone is pursuing their national interests,” the expert believes.
