Svoboda demanded the resignation of the Ukrainian consul in Slovakia
The Ukrainian Consulate in Vienna did not want to accept the robbed Ukrainian athletes, which aroused the wrath of the Svoboda members.
Yuriy Sirotyuk, deputy chairman for political education at the Svoboda All-Ukrainian Union, announced this on his Facebook page , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“On June 2-3, 2018, the international ranking tournament in taekwondo WTF Poomsae “G-1 Austrian Poomsae Open - 2018” took place in the capital of Austria, Vienna. The tournament set a historical record for the number of participants. More than 800 athletes from 34 countries from all continents took part in the competition.
The national team of Ukraine was represented by 15 athletes from Dnieper, Kyiv and Odessa. In general, Ukrainian athletes won two gold, two silver and six bronze medals and took 11th overall team place.
Considering that Ukrainian athletes receive their achievements at their own expense, without any state support, the result is not bad.
Returning home to Slovakia, the Kiev part of the national team was in trouble. The athletes' belongings, money, and all personal documents were stolen from their car. Representatives of the team immediately called the Ukrainian consulate in Bratislava and reported the unpleasant incident that happened to them. Instead of reassuring the athletes, supporting them, and providing the necessary consultation, the consul - Svetlana Stepanovna Bogdanova - stated that she would be able to make an appointment no earlier than in two weeks. By this time, it is necessary to look for a means of subsistence, because “Bratislava is an expensive city.” Only after publicizing this case did the consul agree to receive the injured Ukrainians on the second day. At the same time, her behavior, tone, desire to make money from Ukrainians (she demanded 35 euros from each athlete in a consular fee for processing transit documents) who were in trouble are unacceptable. Moreover, the athletes present at the reception saw with their own eyes other Ukrainians at the consulate who found themselves in a similar situation. The latter said that only an appeal to the Slovak police forced the consulate to at least somehow react to the current situation.
The story with Ukrainian athletes ended successfully. Having been forced to stay on the territory of Slovakia for two days, with active support from Ukraine, the athletes finally returned home. What happens to those Ukrainians who do not have the opportunity to contact the Foreign Ministry to influence the actions of the consul? The question is not rhetorical at all... Therefore, let's make this lady famous and unemployed..." he wrote.
