Ukrainian Ambassador to Austria Alexander Shcherba spoke about this in an interview with European Pravda, answering the question of how seriously propaganda influences pro-Russian sentiments in Austrian society.
“Russian propaganda has an influence,” the diplomat said. – But, in my opinion, it does not so much shape but cement pro-Russian sentiments. When I arrived in Austria they were already there. It is difficult for me (and not only me) to explain where they came from. The sources of propaganda are primarily local, Austrian media, and not Russian. In part, this is about a true pro-Russian position; This pro-Russianism is partly stimulated, let’s say, by certain corporate interests.”
“What about Russia Today and so on? Do they have any influence at all?” the journalist clarified.
“As I already said, Russia Today, Sputnik International, as well as marginal leaflets that are funded not without the participation of Russia - all of them rather support the spirit among those people who have already joined the pro-Russian vector. But I don’t see the danger that is often talked about - they are not the ones who form this vector. The vector is formed through national media and lobby groups.”
