Yanukovych had a plan to shoot the Maidan, but he did not dare
Kyiv, February 21 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Viktor Yanukovych had a plan for the harsh suppression of the Maidan with the physical destruction of most of those standing in the square, but miraculously it was not implemented.
This was stated on the Shuster Live talk show by journalist Sonya Koshkina, who presented a book about the events of last winter, written based on interviews with participants on both sides of the confrontation.

Koshkina claims that Yanukovych planned a forceful dispersal of Maidan on the night of February 18-19, 2014. By this time, about 18 thousand security forces from all over the country had been brought to Kyiv.
Allegedly, the plan provided for an attack on the Maidan from the direction of Institutskaya Street with the help of water cannons, storming the barricades with armored personnel carriers from the European Square and the simultaneous seizure of the stage by 900 special forces, who were to be delivered by a metro train to the underground passage under the Maidan at one in the morning.
According to the plan, in panic, most of those standing on the Maidan were supposed to start fleeing towards Sofia Square, where they would be met by the so-called “titushki”, to whom, Koshkina claims, the authorities were going to issue machine guns to shoot demonstrators.
The journalist believes that Yanukovych’s plan was thwarted because on that decisive night there were too many people on the Maidan, and the authorities did not dare to implement the dispersal.
“That was the plan. It broke thanks to God and thanks to the fact that the Maidan offered incredible resistance,” said the author of the book.
