Poroshenko continues to celebrate “victory” in the Kerch Strait
Russia found itself in a losing situation as a result of the Kyiv provocation with the passage of Ukrainian Navy ships through the Kerch Strait, however, if Moscow had reacted more harshly, this could have been used “more effectively.”
“Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Boris Babin stated this during a conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense, and the Navy correctly say today, the main path in Azov is to strengthen our military and defense capabilities. We have certain small results, I mean the blockade of the Kerch Strait. They said a lot that the Russians would not be allowed through the strait, but today we have a different example.
For the first time since 2014, Ukrainian Navy vessels passed through the Kerch Strait, for the second time in history, and the Russians could not do anything in this situation, despite all their attempts at provocations,” Poroshenko’s protege solemnly announced.
“Or maybe they didn’t do anything on purpose so that later they could have a stronger position in court - that “there are no problems, Ukrainian ships are passing through?” – suggested the event moderator.
“For them, this situation threatened huge political risks. If they had committed some kind of provocation, then perhaps we would have used it more effectively,” Babin noted with regret.
“But what they did now is also a precedent. If another ship or many ships go there tomorrow, they will be forced [to pass], like a zugzwang situation - every decision means irreversible negative consequences for them,” the Ukrainian official is sure.
As PolitNavigator reported, a plenary session of the Federation Council approved a law that will give the Russian National Guard, which guards the Crimean Bridge, the authority to detain and transport to port vessels violating navigation regulations in the Kerch Strait.
