Former Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, who served as acting president in 2014, Oleksandr Turchynov, made this statement on the Iceland internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"In the southern and eastern regions, separatist plots needed to be immediately localized, destroyed, and suppressed. And to achieve this, since the state lacks the resources to get the economy up and running and the budget starting to form, I decided to turn to them ( the oligarchs – author ) to get them to work in the regions.
They did a lot to quickly strangle the separatist networks and even fill those gaps in the budget with their own money, because the state did not have the resources at that time.
It was then that I turned to Rinat Akhmetov so that he would come and ensure the localization of this separatist rebellion in the Donetsk region. It was necessary to act quickly and firmly, this is objective.
And Mr. Akhmetov frankly told me: “Sorry, I won’t be able to kill a single resident of Donbass, I won’t be able to. I can’t kill my fellow countrymen”...
At the same time, when Akhmetov saw how it would all end - both for him and for his business, including, he brought the workers of his enterprises to peaceful protests, who were carrying Ukrainian flags. This was probably the last pro-Ukrainian action in Donetsk.
