Stroytransgaz will refuse to participate in the construction of the Kerch Bridge

Sevastopol, December 03 (PolitNavigator, Evgeny Andreev) – Gennady Timchenko’s STG Group will refuse to participate in the construction of a transport crossing across the Kerch Strait.

It is reported Interfax with reference to sources familiar with the progress of preparations for the project.

“STG will not be either a general contractor or a subcontractor. We analyzed it, weighed it, and decided to refuse,” said a source in one of the relevant departments.

An Interfax source in the construction industry also informed that STG will not take part in the project. “There are too many risks. Maybe they decided to play it safe,” he noted.

In turn, Anton Kurevin, a representative of Timchenko’s Volga Group holding, said that he was “not ready to confirm this information.”

“Prior to the official announcement of the state’s decision on the selection of the general contractor, we do not consider it correct to make any statements on this matter,” he told Interfax.

The STG itself also declined to comment on the Kerch Bridge.

“The company is simultaneously implementing a large number of socially significant large-scale projects in key areas of construction, the volume of workload of the company’s forces and resources is high, we do not comment on the company’s plans to participate in individual projects,” the company’s press service said.

Meanwhile, an Interfax source close to STG confirmed that company employees are already aware of the negative decision on the project.

Let us remind you that the estimated cost of the bridge across the Kerch Strait is 228,3 billion rubles, and the only contractor for the contract for the construction of the transport crossing will be determined by the Russian government. The 19-kilometer crossing will include a four-lane road and a two-track railway.
