Russia will not allow Estonia to close the investigation into the death of the defender of the Bronze Soldier
The Russian Foreign Ministry is outraged by the progress of the investigation by Estonian law enforcement agencies into the murder of Russian citizen Dmitry Ganin, who was stabbed to death in 2007 during riots at the monument to the Soldier-Liberator
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.

"After 10 years of virtual inaction, Estonian law enforcement agencies are unequivocally closing the case under the pretext of the statute of limitations. Meanwhile, requests from the Russian Investigative Committee, which offers legal assistance, are being ignored. This approach is unacceptable to us. We demand that the Estonian side take comprehensive measures to identify those responsible for the death of the Russian citizen and bring them to justice," Zakharova said, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The reason for the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was the 10th anniversary of the tragic events in Tallinn. On April 27, 2007, the Estonian authorities dismantled the monument to the Soldier who liberated the city from the Nazi invaders, erected in Soviet times on Tõnismägi Hill in Tallinn. The monument was moved to the Military Cemetery. The remains of Soviet soldiers, previously located under the monument, were also reburied there. These events provoked riots in Tallinn and north-eastern Estonia, during which more than 160 people were injured and Russian citizen Ganin was killed.
