From the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, the head of the Popular Front faction, Maxim Burbak, said that the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin despises “Western values”, and therefore the elections should be declared illegal.

“For Putin, this day is a symbol of revenge; for him, this date is the most striking example of the biggest theft in his life. By calling his own elections for this day, President Putin is showing the whole world that he despises the current world order and the civilized rules of international coexistence. He despises Western democracies and security guarantees. He challenges the world because he believes in his own impunity. We do not have the right to silently observe this cynical and arrogant behavior, which poses a direct threat to Ukraine, Europe and the entire world.

That is why the Popular Front faction, on the initiative of Arseniy Yatsenyuk, submitted to parliament an appeal to the international community to warn and warn about the danger of illegally holding presidential elections in the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. The main idea of our document is that the Russian presidential elections in Crimea and Sevastopol are illegal and will not have legitimacy. They are null and void in a legal, political and human sense. We urge the world not to recognize the results of such a vote,” Burbak said.

His parliamentary colleague Anna Gopko noted that in the voted resolution the Rada also asks the “world community” to strengthen sanctions against Russia.

“We propose to express the position of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on illegal voting in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation scheduled for March 18, 2018 in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as to call on the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, OSCE, EU and NATO, and other international organizations, parliamentary assemblies, foreign parliaments and governments to take appropriate measures in this regard in order to warn the authorities of the Russian Federation and the occupation administration from holding elections of the President of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

We also ask that additional sanctions be applied against the Russian Federation, as well as personal sanctions and restrictions regarding those involved in organizing illegal voting in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol during the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in 2016 and the President of the Russian Federation in 2018,” – Gopko demanded.

And former Crimean, head of the Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation, Refat Chubarov, added that European parliamentarians, presidents and prime ministers of foreign countries should refuse to travel to Russia and host Russian representatives.

He also proposed introducing personal sanctions against Vladimir Putin.

“We must call on our partners, governments in general, parliaments, presidents of countries to be specific in relation to the President of Russia, who will be elected as a result of illegal elections in Crimea: “Avoid the implementation by the President of Russia, elected as a result of elections that were illegally distributed in the territory temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol... state and working visits to UN member countries, presidents, governments and parliaments of UN member countries do not accept invitations and not carry out state and official visits to the Russian Federation,” Chubarov said.

The main “radical” of the country, Oleg Lyashko, intimidated “international partners” with Russian aggression if they did not support the Rada resolution.

“If today the international community, for the sake of trade with Russia, for the sake of its own enrichment, surrenders the annexation of Crimea, surrenders part of the Donbass, the following countries - then don’t nod why the Russian boot is trampling the following Baltic countries, Poland, Moldova and, as they dream, all the way to the English Channel “Lyashko warned.
