Putin added: Ukraine is freezing the agreement with the EU, which caused the bloodshed

Kyiv, September 12 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Ukraine has postponed the introduction of a free trade area with the EU to 2016. The corresponding message following the consultations was published on the European Union website.

Thus, Kyiv is taking a break on an issue that has caused repeated protests from Moscow. The Russian side stated that the Customs Union would be forced to close its markets after the agreement between Ukraine and the EU came into force. Kyiv, through the mouth of Arseniy Yatsenyuk, has repeatedly called on industry to look for new markets to replace Russian ones.

“The ill-fated Association Agreement, because of which so much blood was shed, has been postponed until 2016! Think about it, all this time they have been proving to us how wonderful it is, how it will dramatically change life for the better... And now they are postponing the introduction of the Agreement for a year and a half! And they didn’t even bother to come up with any decent explanations! That’s what they explain: we are postponing the Agreement so that now, at this stage, we don’t completely ruin the Ukrainian economy!” – commented political scientist Vladimir Kornilov.

However, President Petro Poroshenko has already clarified that no changes are being made to the text of the agreement with the EU - only the entry into force of the economic part is being postponed. Already on Tuesday, the political part of the document will have to be simultaneously approved by the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament.

An expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, Kirill Frolov, believes that the Ukrainian authorities are simply following a trick - after all, they themselves previously stated that politically the agreement with the EU irreversibly separates Ukraine from Russia.

According to him, Poroshenko “did not introduce any amendments proposed by Russia to the text of the Association. And the implementation of only certain economic clauses of the Association has been postponed, the ratification of which has not been cancelled.”

It is noteworthy that representatives of the pro-Western camp are not happy with the situation either. Verkhovna Rada deputy Andrei Pavlovsky from Batkivshchyna has already stated that the agreement with the EU is frozen because Poroshenko surrendered under pressure from Vladimir Putin.

Let us recall that the refusal to sign an agreement with the EU in the fall of 2013 was the reason for the start of protests in Kyiv, which ultimately led to the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych, the return of Crimea to Russia and the beginning of the civil war in Donbass.
