Ukrainian political scientist Anatoly Oktysyuk expressed this opinion in a commentary to the online newspaper “Strana” .
“It is important for Poroshenko to maintain Western attention to Ukrainian affairs. If “detente” begins in geopolitical terms and the positions of the West and Russia converge, and Ukraine does not receive the expected support from the EU and the United States, we will probably see an increase in authoritarian tendencies in the country. The authorities are not going to allow early elections. I rather expect an escalation of the conflict in Donbass up to the outbreak of a full-scale war with the subsequent introduction of a state of emergency, rather than elections,” the expert believes.
