Poroshenko is constructing a new reality of the civil war in Donbass
Ukraine is actually withdrawing from the Minsk agreements, labeling residents of the Donbass territories not controlled by Kyiv as “accomplices of Russian aggression.”
Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacekeeping Initiatives and Conflictology, writes about this in Izvestia .
According to him, the President of Ukraine, having signed the order “On the start of an operation of joint forces to ensure national security and defense, repel and contain the armed aggression of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” took “another thoughtful step on the part of Ukraine aimed at undermining the Minsk agreements and legitimizing the war against the citizens of Donbass.”
Denisov notes that in this case Poroshenko has a number of key goals and solves several problems.
“Firstly, in the context of the presidential campaign that has begun, the president receives complete and undivided control over the situation in the conflict zone from the Ukrainian side and thus minimizes the risks associated with possible opposition from some security agencies.
Secondly, once again the discussion regarding the issue of introducing martial law in Ukraine is being removed. Over the past four years, this issue has been raised more than once as a matter of discussion, but the current regime is trying to remove it from discussion, since it will have to admit that martial law is not being introduced solely out of fear of possible consequences for Poroshenko and his entourage.
Thirdly, it is now established at the legislative level that the Kiev regime is allegedly conducting defensive actions against the Russian Federation, and is not participating in a civil war with units of the DPR, LPR and ordinary residents of Donbass.
Fourthly, from the moment the Joint Forces Operation began, violations of human rights and freedoms in the conflict zone are legitimized by the relevant articles of laws and orders of the commander.
Fifthly, virtually all territories adjacent to the demarcation line on the Ukrainian side will now be divided into security zones and, as a result, will become inaccessible for international monitoring, which, in turn, will provoke further illegal actions of the Ukrainian security forces against the civilian population and impossibility of their investigation,” = the expert points out.
“The adoption of a new law and the reformatting of the ATO into the Joint Forces Operation demonstrate that the Poroshenko regime is rebuilding a parallel reality of the civil war in Donbass,” Denisov sums up. “It is especially important that in this reality there is no place for the Minsk agreements, the DPR, the LPR, and residents of territories not controlled by Kyiv become nothing more than accomplices of “Russian aggression.” All this is happening with the consent of the United States and European partners, as if included in the resolution of the conflict.”
