The political scientist explained what Putin tried to convey to Lukashenko
Russia will insist on the transit of Belarusian power through changes to the Constitution.
Political scientist Dmitry Bolkunets expressed this opinion in a conversation with Moskovsky Komsomolets, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The publication asked what was behind yesterday’s words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who called on the political forces of Belarus for a constructive dialogue.
“Russia will insist on the position that Lukashenko voiced to Putin in Sochi on the transit of power in Belarus through changes to the Constitution. Lukashenko does not keep his promises and is trying to retain power by introducing the Supreme National Law into the Constitution. And I believe that when Putin spoke about the need for dialogue, he meant dialogue with those who are in pre-trial detention centers. There is one risk that Russia takes into account but does not voice. If Lukashenko imposes his version of the Constitution on society, which he himself comes up with, then this will lead to new protests in Belarus,” Bolkunets asserts.
