Paris and Berlin categorically reminded Kyiv that it is necessary to fulfill the obligations assumed in Minsk
The two-day visit to Kyiv by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his French counterpart, Jean-Marc Ayrault, could be a turning point for domestic politics in Ukraine, writes Strana.

“Foreign guests, in a rather categorical manner, reminded Ukrainian politicians that they had not forgotten about the implementation of the political part of the Minsk agreements,” the publication notes. “And this part must be done.” True, so far this approach has caused categorical rejection among the Ukrainian authorities and parliament. But here, it seems, the only question is the arguments that the West is ready to use in order to convince Kyiv to hold elections in Donbass and change the Constitution in terms of granting special status to certain regions of Donbass.”
The publication reports that on Wednesday, European diplomats spoke with President Poroshenko for almost two hours, but following the meeting, the head of the German Foreign Ministry sadly stressed that he does not yet see any progress in the Minsk process, and after that a meeting was held with the heads of parliamentary factions of the Rada.
A Strana source who was present at the meeting said that the French and German diplomats firmly insisted that it was the parliament that was responsible for adopting the law on elections in Donbass and changes to the Constitution.
“Hero and Steinmeier made it clear that there is no other plan other than the implementation of Minsk - the election law, the law on special status, changes to the Constitution,” the publication’s interlocutor shared the details. “He was supported only by the Opposition Bloc and the Will of the People.” The rest told the German and the French that they would never agree to reconcile with the separatists. Steinmeier looked at them very sadly.”
“On Thursday, the heads of three Foreign Ministries - Ukraine, Germany and France - will go to Donbass. This will be the first trip of such high-ranking foreign figures to the ATO zone. There, from midnight on September 15, a two-way regime of “silence” begins, “Strana” points out. – As noted above, its observance in the West is considered the main starting point for starting the process of political settlement - first the adoption of the law on elections in Donbass, then the law on special status and changing the Constitution accordingly. But this is exactly what the Ukrainian authorities do not agree to.”
