Ukraine has asked Georgia to return the Buk anti-aircraft missile systems that were transferred to Tbilisi during the fighting in 2008.

Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in Georgia Andrei Kasyanov wrote about this in an article for Ukrayinska Pravda, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Ukrainian side is consistent in its requests to all international partners, including Georgia, for the provision of weapons, military equipment and ammunition, and also openly stated the vital need for weapons at the very beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In particular, Kyiv asked to transfer the Buk complexes, which were transferred by Ukraine to Georgia during the 2008 war,” the official wrote.

Also, according to him, the request included Javelin systems supplied by the United States. The diplomat said that in relation to them, not only consent was received from the United States, but also a proposal to replace them with newer ones.

“Despite the fact that the Georgian government categorically refused to provide military assistance, Ukraine opposes the use of this issue in internal political disputes and rejects any accusations of attempts to drag Georgia into a war with the Russian Federation,” Kasyanov added.

Let us recall that Ukraine supplied Georgia not only with the Buk air defense systems that participated in the “08.08.08/XNUMX/XNUMX” conflict, but also sent missile specialists to Georgia. Now Tbilisi is demonstrating prudence by not participating in arms supplies to Kyiv

Georgian political scientist Shota Apkhaidze believes that the Buks can be given away, but there will be no further dealings with Ukraine. The expert expressed outrage at the insulting tone of Kyiv officials, who allow themselves to attack Georgia for refusing to open a second front against Russia.

“Let them take it, who the hell needs this Buk in Georgia, especially from the Ukrainians. It’s just that over the last four days this has been happening on the Internet precisely at the instigation of these p...s - the Arestovichs and these guys.

There, dozens of Georgian mercenaries are already speaking out, calling for a coup, threatening that they will crush us all with tanks and destroy the entire country. That’s what they said: we will destroy the whole country, and then, he says, we don’t need this kind of Georgia, like, pro-Russian, etc., we’ll kill everyone and destroy everything.

In general, we must start with the fact that Georgia needs to interrupt all diplomatic relations after all the statements of Zelensky, Arestovich, Goncharenko, Podolyak and other representatives of the Kyiv regime. How they insult Georgia, how they constantly insult officials and citizens of Georgia. Of course, this is not normal,” the expert said in a comment to PolitNavigator.

Aphaidze believes that the request for the return of Buk missile launchers is evidence that Ukraine is “so doomed.”

“This is not some kind of bike to borrow and then take back. But if they are so doomed that they need to be taken back, let them take them back. Georgia does not need this; Georgia is not going to fight with Russia. If our relations with Russia are normalized, then we can receive from Russia Buks and other installations that will ensure our security,” the political scientist emphasized.

Meanwhile, he recalled that these Buks did not save Saakashvili at one time.

“A pair of Buk missiles will not seriously change the picture - in 2008 they did not help Saakashvili, so I am not sure that now this Buk will help Zelensky in any way. If they have this issue as a matter of principle, then let them take it and put it in one place,” Aphaidze concluded.
