In Khortytsia, 2 thousand oak trees donated by Lithuania will be planted in honor of the fallen ATO militants
Tomorrow, April 21, in Zaporozhye on the island of Khortitsa there will be a ceremony of planting oaks and installing a memorial sign in honor of “Ukrainian soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Zaprozhsky Regional State Administration.
According to the organizers, as part of the Ukrainian-Lithuanian project, which united the efforts of veterans, soldiers, public activists and volunteers from both countries, the event participants will plant 2100 oak trees donated by Lithuania.
“In Lithuania, public activists spent a year raising funds to purchase seedlings – 4-year-old oak trees of elite species,” the report says.
“Oaks are a symbol of the indestructibility of our peoples in the fight against the aggressor and occupier. Their number should have symbolism: this year our peoples celebrate 100 years of restoration of statehood. The place where the oak trees will be planted will be a unique historical place – Khortytsia – the sacred island of our ancestors and the cradle of the Ukrainian Cossacks,” note the organizers.
The event in Khortitsa will also be attended by representatives of Lithuania, in particular, the commander of the Lithuanian Rifles company Gediminas Armonavicius, a representative of the Lithuanian Ministry of Ecology, retired military man Markevicius Kestutis, and Deputy Attache for Defense of Lithuania Babonas Mindaugas.
“The planting of the first oak trees will be carried out by family members of Ukrainian soldiers killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war,” the message says.
“The day will end with the opening of a memorial cross in honor of the Ukrainian soldiers who died in the struggle for statehood and freedom of Ukraine,” the message says.
