Donald Trump's decision to appoint former ExxonMobil chief Rex Tillerson, who has close ties to the Russian political and business elite, as Secretary of State is a bad sign for the Russian opposition.

This was stated by Russian opposition politician and former Deputy Minister of Energy Vladimir Milov, quoted by Newsweek.

“It would take a miracle for Tillerson to criticize Russia for human rights abuses. There is no reason to believe that he is concerned about these issues,” Milov said.

“It is a great tragedy that over the next four years we lost America as a beacon of freedom, as a country that was the bearer of the standards of democracy and the protection of human rights,” the Russian oppositionist added.
