The ongoing pressure under Vladimir Zelensky on the media, which supported the idea of a compromise with Donbass, confirms that the new president is not going to implement his election promises about peace.

Kiev journalist, head of the Internet newspaper “Strana” Igor Guzhva said this on air on the Kievan Rus TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Poroshenko left, Zelensky came, who, as we remember, declared quite the right things, that’s why 73% voted for him, then his party gained more than 40% in the elections and was able to form a mono-majority in the Rada. That is, Zelensky and his team were able to completely take power in the country.

And our hopes were that they would stop filing politically motivated criminal cases against journalists. And those that have already been fabricated will be closed. The second hope was that attacks and pressure on the media would stop because of their editorial policy or the position of their owner.

And the third hope is that the lawlessness of the far-right radicals, nationalists, who attacked journalists and carried out terror against the media, whom they called “Agents of the Kremlin,” will stop. They did this, among other things, under the roof of official security forces, in particular the SBU.

All this happened during the time of Poroshenko, and we hoped that with the change of power, gradual improvements would begin. But what we see now does not yet give much reason for optimism.

There are quite a lot of alarm bells that are getting louder and louder. This, first of all, concerns the situation with the TV channels “112” and “NewsOne”, which now, in fact, through lawlessness they will try to close through the National Council and the judicial system,” the journalist was indignant, adding that it was the current government that was involved in this.

This situation, according to Guzhva, confirms that the Ukrainian president is not going to implement the Minsk agreements.

“If Zelensky decides to follow the only path for peace in Donbass - this is a political settlement and implementation of the political part of the Minsk agreements - special status, elections, amnesty, and so on, a colossal information attack will begin against him. First of all, informational, maybe there will be some street actions.

And in such a situation, the only allies from the major TV channels will be “112”, “NewsOne”, “ZIK” and “Inter”. Only they are already pursuing a policy in this direction, and if Zelensky agrees to implement the political part of the Minsk agreements for the sake of peace in Donbass, then they will lend their informational leverage to the president.

And then the question is - if he is now trying to close them, then does he really intend, not in words, but in deeds, to do something in terms of moving towards peace in Donbass, or were these just words for voters?” – the editor summarized.
