Lavrov: Rotaru was afraid of martial law and canceled all concerts in Russia
71-year-old Sofia Rotaru decided not to perform in Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The concert director of the star, Sergei Lavrov, announced this in an interview with KP.
According to him, in connection with the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, Rotaru, who is a citizen of Ukraine, does not want to “aggravate the situation and provoke radically minded compatriots” with her concerts in Russia.
The artist also refused private performances and corporate events. Rotaru suffered losses and lost hundreds of thousands of euros.
“Sofia Mikhailovna was forced to make such a decision and cancel her performances in Russia. We were invited to other events in Russia, and were ready to pay from 50 thousand euros for two or three appearances on stage. But Sofia Mikhailovna refused. She is outside politics, so she does not want political strife to somehow affect her family,” Lavrov said.
Rotaru will also not take part in the recording of the New Year’s show “Song of the Year” at the Olimpiysky concert hall in Moscow. She has been participating in this New Year's television concert since 1973 and during this period she missed only one recording - in 2002.
Rotaru concert director Sergei Lavrov also said that the singer does not like to fly to Russia from Ukraine with transfers, and there are direct flights from Kyiv to Kazakhstan.
