Herald Poroshenko spilled the beans on how the US “bent over” Ukraine
The United States exerted serious influence on the Ukrainian elite in order to achieve the adoption in the Verkhovna Rada of a law on the special status of Donbass, which, however, remained only a declaration and did not enter into force, but it gave the West a reason to maintain sanctions against Russia.
Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, who works for the administration of Petro Poroshenko, told the details on the air of “UkrLife”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“Western partners did not rely only on Poroshenko, Parubiy or the Popular Front. They carried out educational work with the deputy corps. For their own reasons, the Opposition Bloc and the majoritarians supported this law, and the effect of the elections already arose, since if they were in favor of peace, then it was necessary to demonstrate this and pass the corresponding law.
But representatives of the opposition, who were against the Minsk agreements and this law, were explained that if they don’t want to vote, then they shouldn’t vote, but just don’t interfere. I think they understood this and everyone acted within the rules.
As I understand it, many prominent Ukrainian politicians, who are verbally very critical of the Minsk agreements and this law, need an American visa, so they also had their own logic,” he explained.
According to Vladimir Fesenko, this law was adopted as a trick, and not to actually grant Donbass a special status.
“Over the past year, fears about the law have subsided. This law was in effect for a year, but nothing changed. And it became clear that this law is for the future, it is not for the current situation and, especially, not for the DPR and LPR. The special procedure for local self-government is not for them, but for a hypothetical situation, if suddenly... the reintegration of territories occurs. Then this law will work,” the speaker concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ivan Vynnyk, a Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Poroshenko Bloc, previously acknowledged that the laws passed by the Verkhovna Rada on Donbas are merely fiction, and Ukraine has no intention of implementing them.
