“A couple more weeks of the truce, and only firebrands will remain,” residents of Donetsk (PHOTO)
Kyiv, September 16 (PolitNavigator, Mikael Chagalyan) – The “truce” continues in Donetsk, which takes place with varying degrees of intensity. For example, in the Petrovsky district, “truce” occurs much more often than in other areas, and the destruction is more serious. As local residents joke, “a couple more weeks of this ‘truce’ and all that will be left of Petrovka is firebrands.”

Despite the agreements reached in Minsk on a temporary ceasefire, artillery shelling practically does not stop in this part of the city.

This time we witnessed the consequences of the recent shelling. The building of the psychiatric hospital was almost completely destroyed. There were no casualties here (patients and staff were evacuated a long time ago), but the building was turned into a pile of stones and cannot be restored. A nearby school was a little more lucky; all the windows there were knocked out by the blast wave.

A little further, near the road along Petrovsky Street, there are shopping arcades. More precisely, they were located because direct hits from shells literally erased them, leaving only a pile of debris and pieces of reinforcement.

Residential areas also suffered. On Taimyrskaya Street there is a private sector and two- or three-story houses built in the late forties. Up to fifteen shells flew here a couple of days ago. Four shells hit the roof of one of the houses.

You can see the consequences. There is simply no roof, and the holes reveal people’s apartments with broken windows and damaged property. Some things are still intact, but now it’s raining in Donetsk, flooding homes through holes in the roofs. So, apparently nothing will be possible to save the residents.

The neighboring houses were a little more lucky; all the windows in the apartments there were smashed. But in a situation where people simply do not have money, there is simply nothing to restore it for.

Therefore, the owners have to board up the windows with plywood boards and cover them with film. While we were studying the consequences of the shelling, information came about strong explosions in the area of the Oktyabrskaya mine. This means again victims and again destruction.
