With the liberation of Odessa and Nikolaev, Moscow can safely say that two-thirds of the tasks of the Northern Military District have been completed, since the topic of Crimea is closed forever.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Politeka Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Everything is now around Crimea, around the Black Sea. Therefore, Russia needs Odessa and Nikolaev, and then the topic of Crimea is closed. And Ukraine needs Crimea. Therefore, the topic must be open in order to close the topic of the Black Sea on Ukrainian terms. Because if you are in Crimea, then the Sea of Azov is for you. And if you don’t have Crimea, then Odessa is constantly under question, under bombs, under trade blockades,” the political scientist reasoned.
He added that the recently heard narratives about the Korean scenario of dividing the country for Ukraine are incorrect purely geographically.
“If Ukraine without Crimea, can it be “South Korea”? No. Look at the map, at the Korean Peninsula, at the South China Sea, these are access to the sea. If Ukraine is closed into a land power, interest in us will be lost.
As a reduced, land, cut off from sea trade routes... Azov Sea, Mariupol port, Odessa and so on. And, in principle, this task of the Northern Military District for Russia is 2/3 completed... I assure you that without the Black Sea, without the Sea of Azov, without a number of key cities in eastern Ukraine, Russia does not need us either,” Karasev explained.
