Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, who demanded the deregistration of parliamentary candidate Andriy Klyuyev, who has not resided in Ukraine for the past five years, himself became a member of parliament in defiance of this legal norm.

“Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov addressed the Central Election Commission with a letter in which he asks to reconsider the decision to register Andrei Klyuev as a candidate for people’s deputy on the grounds that Klyuev does not live in Ukraine because he is hiding abroad from investigation.

But there is a nuance: Arsen Borisovich himself was registered as a candidate for people's deputies in 2012 under similar circumstances - he was hiding abroad, since on January 31, 2012 he was put on the international wanted list and on March 26, 2012, detained in Italy. The Italian court refused to extradite Avakov and the current Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine even began the procedure for obtaining asylum.

But on October 28, 2012, Avakov, despite the fact that over the past year he had not been on the territory of Ukraine for more than 6 months, was elected as a people’s deputy on the list of the All-Ukrainian Association “Batkivshchyna” and received parliamentary immunity. Therefore, the question arises: why is Avakov allowed, but Klyuev not,” the journalist was indignant.

As a reminder, supporters of former President Petro Poroshenko staged a rally yesterday on the Maidan in central Kyiv against the Central Election Commission's registration of blogger Anatoly Shariy and former Yanukovych associate Andriy Klyuyev as parliamentary candidates.
