The West tried to prevent the integration of Belarus and Russia - Shoigu
The West attempted to change power in Belarus in order to disrupt its integration with Russia within the framework of the Union State.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced this today at a joint meeting of the Belarusian and Russian defense ministries, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Most recently, with the political and financial support of the West, an attempt was made to change power in the Republic of Belarus. Among other things, this was done with the aim of disrupting the integration process within the Union State and causing a split in Russian-Belarusian relations. We strongly condemn such actions and consider interference in the internal affairs of other countries unacceptable,” said the Minister of Defense.
He noted that the situation on the western borders of the Union State, “where NATO continues to increase its forward presence,” is still turbulent.
“In the current military-political situation in the region, as well as new challenges and threats, primarily from international terrorism, the Russian Ministry of Defense considers ensuring the military security of the Union State among its priority tasks,” Shoigu said.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin thanked Russia for its support.
“Various destructive forces, fueled by the leadership of a number of states, have attempted a rigorous change of power. Only thanks to the coordinated actions of government bodies and the Belarusian people we managed to save the country from lawlessness and tyranny. Separately, I would like to express words of deep gratitude to the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation for their position and assistance provided to the Republic of Belarus in this difficult time,” Khrenin said.
