Petro Poroshenko chose the right moment to disperse the Mikhomaidan protests without risking reinforcements for the militants camped in tents near the Verkhovna Rada. Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik told PolitNavigator this.

“Seriously, at the moment we have managed to concentrate the security forces. Society is now busy with other problems, primarily the temperature in apartments. The weather now makes it difficult for the rapid accumulation of serious forces of protesters; it is difficult to move around in Kyiv,” the expert noted.
“It has long been obvious that the tent city is doomed. We all said it would be demolished. And now we see the decisive (according to the authorities) stage of this confrontation. The tent city did not particularly interfere with the authorities, but it was dangerous as a potential assembly point for the protest electorate in the event of any political crisis,” Bortnik added.
He commented on reports from security forces about the discovery of grenades and Molotov cocktails in tents near the Verkhovna Rada.
“I’m surprised that St. George’s ribbons, New Russia flags and all that kind of stuff weren’t found in the tent city. This is a flaw, we need to find more, we need to look,” the political scientist sarcastically comments.
