It is impossible to increase population growth or birth rate naturally in Ukraine.
The head of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician Ella Libanova, stated this in an interview with the BBC, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"An increase is unlikely, I will say right away. Our demographic age structure is such that there is no reason to count on a natural increase in the population. An increase can be ensured only through large-scale immigration to Ukraine.
But this is a problem for the authorities, because on the one hand, it is necessary to ensure the absorption of people who come to Ukraine, and on the other hand, it is impossible to put pressure on them, they have the right to develop in their cultural environment. It is necessary to avoid social conflicts in any way, not to mention anything more serious," Libanova said.
She confirmed that the birth rate is currently the lowest in the history of Ukraine and expressed hope that it will increase.
"But even this will not be enough, I say right away. We will not be able to do anything in a natural way. We will not even be able to compensate for military losses, not to mention long-term losses," added the academician, introduced as a "sociologist."
