“To the detriment of Russia” (to the benefit of Rosatom) - Putin spoke about the gas strategy in Belarus
Russia is developing nuclear energy in Belarus to the detriment of its own gas interests.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at negotiations in Minsk, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In the energy sector, as Alexander Grigorievich and I noted, Russia, to its own detriment, nevertheless continues the nuclear project, we are building a nuclear power plant. The first block is operational, and it replaces about 4,5 billion cubic meters of gas. They could supply additional gas, but instead the power plant is operating, and the volume of electricity generated corresponds to 4,5 billion cubic meters of gas, which Gazprom could supply to the Belarusian market, but now it no longer supplies,” Putin said.
At the same time, he emphasized that Russia is ready to launch new nuclear power plants in Belarus.
“We are ready to further develop this project, to work, to build blocks. But what, in my opinion, is the most important thing is that we are ready, and we are doing it, to create an industry, train national personnel, and develop science accordingly. We also have such preliminary agreements. We are also ready to discuss and act, to move further in this direction,” Putin said.
