According to a document published at the end of last week, refugee status in the republic can be obtained on the basis of an application by a person who “due to well-founded fears may become a victim of persecution in the country of his citizenship on the basis of race, religion, citizenship, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion."
These issues should be addressed to the executive authority responsible for migration issues.
A person recognized as a refugee is issued a residence permit - a refugee identification document valid for up to 6 months, which can be extended several times.
The provision provides for cases when a person may lose refugee status and a list of grounds for refusal to grant such status on the territory of Transnistria.
