The decision of the governor of the Odessa region to appoint Maria Gaidar as his adviser can hardly be called a professional decision, writes Nezavisimaya Gazeta.

At the same time, the newspaper points out that attracting foreigners and their successful activities in Ukrainian power structures can become a precedent of international significance, notes that Saakashivli, for all his ambiguity, has experience of successful reforms, but is perplexed about the appointment of Maria Gaidar, emphasizing that This decision can hardly be called professional and pragmatic.
“It is difficult to find explanations other than purely political ones for the choice of Maria Gaidar,” Nezavisimaya Gazeta summarizes. – It is difficult to consider experience in the administration of the Kirov region, studying abroad or managing a non-profit foundation as a good enough recommendation, and a last name as a sign of economic competence. Maria Gaidar is primarily an experienced Russian opposition figure. Her appointment is perceived as a sign of opposition to Moscow, the Kremlin, and Russian authorities. By making such a choice, Saakashvili additionally politicizes his own activities, which hardly adds to its effectiveness.”
