The threat of a new escalation in Donbass is growing sharply
Any peaceful settlement in Donbass will be sabotaged by the Ukrainian authorities, since they are aimed at solving the problem by force. Political scientist Armen Gasparyan stated this today during a round table in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, commenting on Kyiv’s reluctance to extend the law on the special status of the LDPR.

“A few months before the expiration of the law on the special status of Donbass in Ukraine, they began to study with great excitement the Croatian method of 1995, that is, ethnic cleansing. Ukrainian politicians openly declare that they are absolutely not interested in the population of the LDPR, since they consider them spoiled, absolutely Russian and beyond influence. Thus, in principle, you can ignore it. We just need territory,” Gasparyan said.
He believes that Kiev is seriously considering a forceful scenario, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Therefore, for them, the end of the law on special status is a free hand in the escalation of violence. They will traditionally blame the leadership of the LDPR and the Russian Federation for this. It is no coincidence that over the past few weeks, Ukrainian politicians have been saying: since the Minsk agreements are still impossible to implement from the point of view of the law, then why waste time on this,” Gasparyan said.
The Law of Ukraine on a special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions (on special status) was adopted on October 18, 2014. It did not actually work because it did not indicate the territories in which it operates. The law expires on October 18, 2017; Ukraine refuses to renew it.
