Scientists hint: Fires in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant zone are a consequence of the amateurism of the Maidan workers
The fire in the Chernobyl zone is evidence of the collapse of the structure of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Ukraine and the lack of professional personnel, says Sergei Azarov, head of the department of radiation and general safety of the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

“We need to prevent such fires, not extinguish them. The mistake was that prevention was not carried out. Unfortunately, now, due to the change of power in the country, inexperienced personnel are coming in. And until they gain experience, such situations will be repeated.”
Vladimir Usatenko, chairman of the nuclear safety commission of the Ukrainian environmental association “Green World”, people’s deputy of the 1st convocation, chief consultant of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commission on the Chernobyl disaster (1994), agrees with this opinion.
“At one time, fire reservoirs were built there, turning areas near reservoirs where fire engines could get water, and special clearings were made in forest areas so that they could drive up and extinguish the fire within a certain time. In addition, helicopters have always patrolled the exclusion zone,” he says.
