Tymoshenko: A full-scale energy crisis is beginning in Ukraine
Prices for domestic energy resources inflated to 50 hryvnia per cubic meter of gas will finish off Ukrainian industry and the agricultural sector.
The leader of Batkivshchyna, Yulia Tymoshenko, stated this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Currently, a full-scale energy crisis is developing in Ukraine. The European Commission issued a special communiqué on what every government in the EU should do to protect countries, people, and businesses from the energy crisis.
I know what is happening here. First, the cost of Ukrainian gas is one hryvnia, they sell it for seven, to the public sector - for 13. Intermediaries have simply flooded this system, and corruption has today reached its apogee in the resale of Ukrainian natural gas.
Secondly, today the price for industry reaches 50 hryvnia per cubic meter of gas. These are all industries that produce food - what is necessary for people's lives. In almost a month, they will have prices that are unaffordable for people - neither for food nor for basic necessities. Do you understand that inflation will reach the highest levels?
Third, fertilizers for the sowing season will not be available to our farmers at a gas price of 50 hryvnia per cubic meter; our sowing season is under threat,” Tymoshenko listed.
She added that there is no coal in Ukrainian warehouses, and there is no natural gas in storage facilities sufficient to last through the heating season.
“We need to immediately move forward with the law on the gas market and adopt a state of emergency in the energy sector, and adopt a national action program that is fully consistent with what the European Commission advises,” the deputy urged.
