Sobyanin fears second round in Moscow mayoral elections
In the upcoming Moscow mayoral elections, Sergei Sobyanin’s headquarters will do everything to divide opponents of the current mayor and prevent the possibility of a second round.
Georgy Fyodorov, a member of the Russian Public Chamber, made this statement during a conference where left-wing forces discussed participation in the Moscow mayoral elections and support for a single candidate, Vadim Kumin, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The mayor’s office is very good at manipulating people, protest groups and citizens who are against it. It divides on political and social grounds, pits environmentalists against those who are against paid parking, pits social groups that are fighting among themselves in the same area.
Power feels only force. It only reacts when there is mass participation and organization, there is irreconcilability of demands and the will to achieve these demands,” he said.
“We all know that these elections are non-electoral, Sobyanin will not propose any program. Their task is to mobilize the maximum number of public sector employees, those people who are dependent on them, and thereby achieve results.
Their second task is to prevent the opposition movement to Sobyanin, all groups and active people from coming to these elections. We all remember that in the last elections Sobyanin barely made it to the second round. Now their task is to make sure that there is no second round,” Fedorov noted.
