Russians are afraid of international conflicts and are not worried about the economy
What worries Russians most is the tense international situation. This is evidenced by data from a survey conducted by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM).

The index demonstrating the level of Russians’ fears regarding conflicts between countries amounted to 20 points in August (last year – 10 points), and the index of fear of rising prices for goods and depreciation of savings dropped from 21 to 14 points over two months.
Indices of fear of increased crime and unrest within the country are negative and equal to -2 points. The level of concern about health problems and natural disasters is -5 points. Decrease in income due to cuts or delays in salaries, etc. also seems unlikely to the majority of respondents (index value -14 points). The topic of unemployment is not updated – the indicator remains at -30 percentage points for the second month in a row.
“Concerns about the high cost, shortages and depreciation of savings were intensively reduced: the alarming information background about the economic crisis did not correspond to what citizens observed on price tags and store shelves. Optimism is also caused by the fact that the fear of crime, which palpably loomed in the spring, did not materialize and began to wane,” said Stepan Lvov, head of the Department of Monitoring and Electoral Research at VTsIOM.
