The environmental disaster in the Kerch Strait, involving the spill of nearly 4 tons of fuel oil, will be recognized as a federal emergency.
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov , announced this on air on Crimea 24 , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I guess 'fortunately' isn't the right word in this case, because our fraternal region received the bulk, but the wind was blowing the other way, and the largest volume of oil products went to Taman . Crimea was simply luckier, but I was in Krasnodar on Saturday and met with Veniamin Ivanovich Kondratyev (Governor of Krasnodar Krai). Cooperation was organized at the highest level.
"Yesterday, I discussed this with Vitaly Gennadyevich Savelyev (the supervising Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation). Today, there will be a meeting of the federal emergency commission . Vitaly Gennadyevich reported to the president, and the president gave the order—and this situation will be designated a federal emergency, meaning federal funds will be allocated to resolve this issue . Therefore, we will find a solution," Aksyonov assured.
According to him, the consequences of the oil spill in the Kerch Strait will be mitigated by the holiday season , despite the fact that the pollution in the bottom layers cannot be cleaned up.
"Yesterday, entrepreneurs from St. Petersburg sent me a request. They say they have a treatment technology. We agreed that they would take the equipment and demonstrate the effectiveness of recycling and collection on-site. If something works, rest assured, we're willing to invest in it. So we're approaching this unconventionally, looking for ways to work together. We'll completely mitigate this situation before the season ," the regional governor said confidently.
He emphasized that over the past 10 years, Crimea has acquired unique experience in emergency response.
"This is our strong point. Unfortunately, we've been tested for the past 10 years; I can't remember any blockades we haven't faced: water, gas, electricity, food, medicine— from drought to floods . We've been through so much emergency training over these years that we're one of the leaders," Aksyonov concluded.
