Russia will offer Youtube to jointly fight trash streams
Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov proposes not only to fine foreign Internet platforms for censorship of Russian media, but also to cooperate with them in the fight against so-called trash streams.
He stated this today while speaking in the Federation Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Regulation of foreign Internet platforms is necessary. However, blocking is a last resort, which is provided for by law. The emphasis should be on intermediate forms of influence. In particular, fines. We are not pioneers here. The law that will be considered must provide for an increase in fines to protect our digital sovereignty,” Pushkov said.
At the same time, he believes, Russia can count on cooperation with the same Youtube and Google in the fight against so-called trash streams, during which people are beaten, humiliated and even killed.
“It seems to me that additional legislative measures need to be taken here. You can open a criminal case for murder on live television, but this is the wrong reaction. We must introduce amendments to the legislation that will ban trash streams as such. Here, by the way, we can count on cooperation with foreign Internet platforms. They themselves are trying to fight this phenomenon, although it is quite difficult,” Pushkov said.
The initiative was supported by the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko. She proposed giving the corresponding instructions to the Committee on Constitutional Legislation.
“Unfortunately, we are late in taking measures to prevent vicious phenomena on the Internet,” Matvienko said.
