SBU officers opened criminal proceedings under parts 1 and 2 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The press service of the department announced the detention of three residents of the region. The SBU also accused them of distributing printed materials with anti-state content and preparing to set fire to billboards with pro-Ukrainian slogans, as well as distributing anti-Ukrainian materials on the Internet.
As a result, the SBU officers began criminal proceedings not under the article on vandalism, but immediately under the article on encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine. The punishment under this article is from 5 to 10 years in prison.
As PolitNavigator reported earlier, police had previously reported the arrest of three young men —two Odessans and a resident of the Belyaevsky district. Investigators believe the suspects deliberately came to the district center to destroy the monument.
The SBU called the destruction of the "Heavenly Hundred" monument an attack on Ukraine's integrity.
