The President of Montenegro declared the SOC “a cross-border structure of Serbian nationalism”
Montenegro President Milo Djukanovic said that Belgrade is allegedly using the Serbian Orthodox Church to destroy the sovereignty of neighboring countries.
The Montenegrin dictator said this in an interview with the Slovenian publication Delo , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We are talking about the instrumentalization of a religious community to destroy the sovereignty of neighboring countries in order to implement the Greater Serbia project, this time under the slogan “Serbian Peace,” Djukanovic said. “In the 90s, Serbian nationalism promoted the idea of unifying all Serbs into one state, today instead there is the slogan “Serbian peace”, and this is because the same goal is shaped differently.”
According to Djukanovic, “Great Serbian nationalism has lost its footholds in Croatia and Kosovo,” but they remain in Montenegro and the Republic of Serbian Bosnia and Herzegovina. And the SOC in this process is assigned the role of “the only cross-border infrastructure of Serbian nationalism.”
At the same time, the dictator, who has held the reins of power since 1991 and regularly organizes nationalist rallies under the umbrella of his Democratic Party of Socialists, including the failed riot in Cetinje, said Montenegro is "extremely determined" to prevent a repeat of the tragedy of the late 20th century. Therefore, Montenegro's policy is to avoid fighting Serbian or any other nationalism with Montenegrin nationalism.
