Raising gas and heat tariffs will provoke riots, expert
Kyiv, February 18 (PolitNavigator, Oleksandr Semenyuta) – At the request of the IMF, the authorities have decided to increase gas prices by 280% and heat by 66%, according to NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva. Public figure Dmytro Vasyliev told mignews.com.ua that Ukrainians will not be able to pay such high rates, and the government should expect "incredible social unrest."

“I heard about such a statement by Mrs. Gontareva. If this is, as Mrs. Gontareva put it, a sharp rise in price, then of course we need to expect a very negative reaction from the population.
Moreover, it is negative in two components: the first component is that non-payments will increase. In fact, people today are already on the verge of poverty. Because the majority of Ukrainians now live on 1,5-2 dollars a day.
Considering that this is not Africa and we have to pay for heat and utilities, we have reached the level of the poor population, not even the European one. And of course, people simply won't have enough money to pay such high rates. And this will be an incredible social outrage, and the authorities may receive a very serious reaction from society,” Vasiliev said.
